Ceramic braces work just like conventional metal braces, except other people will have difficulty noticing them. Each smooth bracket is made of a translucent ceramic material to seamlessly blend in with your teeth. Our dental team suggests clear ceramic braces to our New York City, NY patients if they want the advantages of traditional metal braces but with a more attractive appearance. If you are interested in getting more information on clear ceramic braces or researching other orthodontic options, contact Concerned Dental Care at one of our New York locations to schedule a consultation.

Ceramic braces are made of clear or tooth-colored brackets, which makes them less visible than conventional metal braces. This makes them an ideal option for older teenagers and adults who need orthodontic treatment but don't want the look of regular braces. However, they do require more care than metal braces because they use clear elastic bands, which can become discolored or yellow if not properly cleaned. With removable teeth aligning treatments, you face the possibility of prolonging treatment if an aligner is lost or not worn for the suggested period of time. Thus, ceramic braces are a fantastic choice since they offer continuous treatment.

On the day of your visit, we will clean and polish your teeth with a special cleaner. Then we will brush on a sealant and the tips of your teeth will be gently smoothed if needed. The clear brackets will be positioned on each individual tooth. Once the mounts are in their correct position, we'll utilize ultraviolet (UV) light to immediately harden the glue. This very simple process doesn't cause any discomfort and attaches the brackets to your teeth. The final step is threading the wire through each of the brackets and using small white elastic bands to fasten the wire to the brackets. The whole process normally takes a few hours to finish.

After your clear ceramic braces are set, you might have some discomfort as your teeth, gums, and lips adjust to your orthodontic treatment. Though mild discomfort is normal, these symptoms typically get better in time and can be relieved with dental wax that protects your mouth from the mounts along with nonprescription pain reducers.

Although clear ceramic braces don't easily stain, the elastics that are put on your braces can darken from particular food and drinks such as coffee, berries, and more. Therefore, you should do your best to avoid these to keep up the visual appeal of your braces. Brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash after each meal will also ensure proper appearance and oral hygiene.
